<밀수> 'Smugglers' Movie Review

    Smugglers is the first Korean film of this summer. It is followed by several Korean movies, including three blockbusters. Hence, Smugglers can be thought of as the starting point; and its outcome can greatly influence the fate of the other movies. From what I can see, it was a great starting point.  What I want to focus on is the reason why Smugglers is a must-see movie. First of all, the director is Ryu Seung-Wan, a representative Korean director. His movie style is the mainstream; his movies are easy for the Korean audience to emphasize with. This movie was also easy to emphasize with. One thing to watch out in such cases is that the movie can be mistaken as common and predictable, when approached carelessly. However, Ryu Seung-Wan created his own outstanding twists and turns, and along with heartwarming chemistry between the characters, completed the movie successfully. <집으로 가는 길> 'Way Back Home' Movie Review

   This Korean film starring Jeon Do-yeon and Go-su is based on a true story. This is a surprising fact, in that the story itself is quite unbelievable and horrifying. And yet, events like this do happen in real life. To prevent such tragedy, reflection and change is needed; many times stimulated by the film culture.  Jeong-yeon is an ordinary housewife. Her family of three is poor, so she decides to take on an unknown small task entrusted by her husband's friend. This small task later turns out to drug smuggling. Jeong-yeon is caught in the airport and imprisoned in Martinique. She just has to prepare some papers to speak of her unknowingness; but things get complicated as the no one takes her situation seriously. She becomes battered and shattered as a helpless prisoner in a remote island far from home.  It is true that Jeong-yeon committed a crime.
