<거미집> 'Cobweb' Movie Review [Chuseok Film 2]

The second Chuseok movie to introduce is Cobweb. Many renowned actors, including Song Gang-ho, Lim Soo-jung, Oh Jeong-se, Jeon Yeo-been, and Jung Soo-jung(aka Krystal) participated. It was also amazing to see actor Jung Woo-sung appear as an important cameo.

Although the story is different, I was reminded of the Hollywood movie Babylon, since Cobweb also takes place in a movie set. In my opinion, Cobweb would be better for Koreans to watch because it better suits people's taste.

Among the three movies of Chuseok, Cobweb was personally the best. Detailed scenes were gradually and carefully accumulated to form a massive consequence to the end. The build-up was absolutely astonishing, and twist-and-turns were presented perfectly. Impeccable acting from Song Gang-ho especially stood out; indeed, Cannes Best Actor Award winner:)

It all happens when movie director Kim decides to film the ending of his movie again after getting deeply inspired by his dream. To film the ending again, he hurriedly gathers up the cast and crew without reporting to his superiors. Although the movie set is to be cleared out, he persuades people that all he needs is two days; then, a brilliant masterpiece will be completed. Kim strives desperately to fulfill his goal, bearing complaints from here and there.

Cobweb had previously been invited to Cannes Film Festival and gotten a ten minute standing ovation, and I could definitely see the reason for it. Director Kim Jee-woon's deliberation and effort was directly delivered through the screen, automatically getting me goosebumps, especially towards the end. Wow... Everyone fights fiercely for not-so-important issues, but before they know it, they get trapped deeply in a consequence beyond imagination. And there may probably be no way out. Well that's how things are; really, problems do come when all seems well.

Review: Slowly but surely, entangled in a massive cobweb.
