<드림> 'Dream' Movie Review

Sports movies are surprisingly rare these days. They have their own strength in that they induce joy, thrill, excitement, fulfillment, and a bunch of other positive feelings. This movie was made by a renowned, young director Lee Byung-hun and stars famous actors Park Seo-jun, IU(Lee Ji-eun), Lee Hyun-woo, and so on.

Hong-dae is a famous soccer player, but things didn't go well for him. He has to play a role as the coach of a soccer team of homeless people. And the whole process is to be filmed into a documentary by a producer So-min. Hong-dae and So-min both start this project just for personal interests, but as time passes, they begin to work together to actually make the homeless people's lives better.

The movie shone much more than I had anticipated, as I thought that it would be like a typical sports movie. But there was definitely something special about it, and it took some time to figure out what it was.

<Dream> was special because while watching the movie, the real world totally left my mind. Movies tend to give oneself something to think about while being played, and it is common to compare our life to what is happening on screen, in real time. This action disturbs concentration, and also weakens the function of movies; to escape from reality for a few hours. However, this movie was so well laid out, and especially in soccer match scenes, they were so thrilling and tense that it was impossible to take one's eyes off the screen, let alone connect to real life.

Usually in sports movies, the leading actors take a role of the players. However in <Dream>, the two main leading actors, Park Seo-jun and IU, didn't participate in the soccer games. They were just coach and documentary producer. The soccer games were important, as they were showed in detail. Due to this fact, the audience's focus might have been scattered in the frantic game scenes, were it not for actor Lee Hyun-woo.

Lee Hyun-woo stars as the ace player of the team. During movie promotions, Lee Hyun-woo was introduced as a supporting actor. But he is actually a famous actor and in his previous works, he was often the lead role. In <Dream>, before the games began, he wasn't on camera much. But in the games, his role gained importance and thanks to him, the audience's focus wasn't scattered by the confusion of the game as they gradually focused on him. And this focus was totally understandable too, based on his career. Hence, Lee Hyun-woo was an excellent choice.

The movie will be fun and light to watch, especially in this time of the year, when the weather turns warm and cozy.

Review: Sincerity and passion is all it takes.
