<시민덕희> 'Citizen of a Kind' Movie Review

Image
This type of Korean movie is typical, yet strangely rare these days. It depicts Korean's joy and sorrow in a humorous way. Ten years ago, these movies were often screened, gaining immense popularity with little failure. Citizen of a Kind made me reminisce the good old days by evoking familiarity.    Duk-Hee is a common citizen working her busy day to day life. When she is in desperate need of money, she is scammed by voice phishing. In despair she runs to the police, only to find that punishing voice phishing criminals is difficult. The police isn't helpful at all. Then one day she receives a call from the phishing caller himself. He claims that he will help her retrieve money by providing inside information, asking in return for her help.   Everyone will be able to enjoy the movie, meanwhile also feeling sympathy for the characters. There is humor here and there, lightening the overall mood. Based on a true story, the movie raises awareness of voice phishing. Rev...

<선산> 'The Bequeathed' Drama Review

A mystery show on Netflix. Seo-ha's life turns into horror when she unexpectedly inherits a burial ground from her uncle whom she didn't even know existed. She begins to feel threatened by all kinds of people around her aiming for the land's money worth. The police isn't much help. Meanwhile weird events keep happening when Seo-ha has no one to rely on.    The show is overall dark and gloomy, but definitely fascinating. Due to unexpected twists, the show succeeded in maintaining suspense throughout the story. And it was great to watch the reunion of actors Park Hee-Soon and Kim Hyun-Joo; they previously starred in Trolley together. Created by Train To Busan 's director Yeon Sang-Ho, the show has only 6 episodes and is quite interesting to watch.  I had low expectations for the show, but to my surprise it turned out to be the best show I've seen recently. A fine discovery! Review : So dark the human mind.

<노량: 죽음의 바다> 'Noryang: Deadly Sea' Movie Review

The end to Admiral Yi Sun-Sin's trilogy. The first movie, The Admiral: Roaring Currents (<명량>), was released in 2014 and the second one, Hansan: Rising Dragon (<한산: 용의 출현>), in 2022. It took 10 years for the series to conclude. For a decade, my life faced lots of changes and challenges along the way, but Admiral Yi's unyielding patriotism and ambition was unchanging. His belief reached me time to time whenever a new series was released. Noryang: Deadly Sea was finally the time to face Yi Sun-Sin's death in his ever-famous final battle, letting go to the 10 year long trilogy of our proud history.    The final battle was just so precious; every single moment was dear. A surprising number of star actors took part in the film, commemorating Yi's history and the end to the legendary trilogy. I was overwhelmed by the grandeur of it and my heart was captivated throughout the three hour screening.    Dear Yi Sun-Sin, thank you for protecting Joseon's mari...

<경성크리처 시즌1> 'Gyeongseong Creature- Season 1' Drama Review

It's another new year, 2024! Starting from this year, I'm planning to additionally introduce Korean dramas to you guys:) Hope you enjoy the change!   From 1910 to 1945, 36 years... All those years, Korea(a.k.a. Joseon) was under Japanese rule. The Japanese reign was a total nightmare to Joseon people. They ruled over the people in numerous ways, using violence and brainwashing with no mercy. The Japanese also conducted biological experiments on Joseon people, such as the army unit 'Unit 731'. Japanese soldiers, scientists, doctors, and public officials took part in these inhumane experiments. These are all true stories, an evident part of history.   Gyeongseong Creature  begins with biological experiments conducted by the Japanese. Of course the drama is fictional, but the fact that it's based on history is obvious. In the show, a Joseon woman is turned into a monster by Japanese experiment. The officials try their best to keep the monster hidden in the undergroun...
