<파과> 'The Old Woman With The Knife' Movie Review
The weight of time; its presence must be great. Great enough to add uncommonness to a common character. Cause other than the fact that the killer is an old woman, everything else is cliché. The director must have intended to maximize charm by the many memories accumulated and much emotion felt throughout her lifetime. To be frank, I could 'see' the charm but couldn't actually 'feel' it. Probably because the 'killer' subject is quite predictable. But the film itself is well-made. Especially, the entangled link of emotion towards each other is delivered marvelously.
Age serves as a powerful tool for a killer but also as a weakness, both physically and mentally. She used to kill without second thought, but now she hesitates, thinks too much. Reminisces the past often, especially her mentor who saved her life and trained her. Missing him, her only family, friend, and perhaps the one and only love of her life. A killer mustn't make any weakness to protect. They had already experienced devastating loss together. Once was enough. Thus followed farewell.
There was no need for her to make any more relationship with people. So she focused solely on missions given and performed flawlessly all the time. But people do change when they get old. The old woman encounters someone from her past. Someone she had forgotten about, but who hadn't forgotten her.
Review: I guess I kinda liked the way you numbed all the pain.
